First hand experience with Cyanogenmod 11 (M10) - part 2

After using cyanogenmod for a week time, I should give thumbs up to the team for giving such a good upgrade over android.

They have made sure that the pure essence of stock android is not disturbed and at the same time added tons of customization. It's almost near stock android experience.

Let's get back to the topic, I will highlight a few other features which i feel are interesting with cyanogenmod

Privacy for your personal apps

There is an option in cyanogenmod by which you can protect needed apps from unauthorized access. You can do it with a pattern lock

To check this, got to Settings->Apps then click for more options and select protected app. All the apps you select here will vanish from app display area and you can access these only with your pattern unlocked

Google now launcher Customization

We would have accessed google now in stock android by swiping the screen from bottom, cyanogenmod provides addional sophistication of adding 2 more short cuts to the left and right of existing google now launcher. I have my screen-shot option over there, avoiding me to press 2 buttons at the same time to take a screen shot

App launcher customization

In stock android, the app launcher usually resides at the bottom of your screen and it is not customizable, but this is not true incase of cyanogenmod, now you can keep this icon where ever you want in the screen just like apple ios home button

Customizing the navigation area

With cyanogenmod, you can even customize the navigation area at the bottom which gives you access to back, home and recent apps option. I can now rearrange the options in the area and assign actions to them ( few limitations are mentioned though )

Profiles

There is something called Profiles here with which you can save custom settings for your work, home and gym etc. There are few pre defined profiles available which you can tweak instantly or you can add your own

There are lot more exciting options to discuss which I will do as soon as possible

Thanks for reading

Cheers!
